Kunming Kaleidoscope

Beijing Road, Downtown Kunming 1994
Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province, is a prosperous
boomtown with a total population of 3.3 million.
Kunming is a good city to explore on foot. It has broad sidewalks
lined with shady but well-maintained trees. With a yearly mean
temperature of 15C, it is definitely a livable place.

Siew Thai in front of the Gongren Wenhuagong(Worker's Palace)1996.
This is a very lively place in Kunming. Every morning there are crowds of people
doing taichi(the Chinese martial art), ballroom dancing or sword dance here.

Sanqingge Temple,Western Hills (Xishan),Kunming 1994.
I took more than 2 hours to walk up the Xishan to Longmen, the summit ofXishan.
It was a very tiring climb. Fortunately, many of the temples along
the way offer hot water and tea leaves-at a fee of course- that quenched my thirst.
Visiting the place during the cool tourist season I particularly cherished this quiet
moment.Sanqingge was originally a country villa for a prince of the Yuan Dynasty.

Siew Thai in front of Daguanlou, Daguan Park(Daguan Gongyuan)1996.
Daguanlou is the landmark of Kunming, it has the longest
couplets in China which makes it a must-see for visitors to Kunming.

Siew Thai, Yi Chang and Li Chang in Shilin(Stone Forest)1996
There is a saying in Kunming:"bu you shilin, wang dao Kunming"
which means no trip to Kunming would be complete without a visit to
Stone Forest which is 90 km away. It is actually a karst formation
spread over 300 sq km which was formed 270 million years ago.
